All it takes is a Google search to know how unprepared Americans are for retirement. I will not bore you with the stats but they are dire. Without the pensions of old, we are forced into the stock market via 401K’s, if our employers offer them and if we choose to participate. Interestingly, there is also an actual 401K crisis in America you can Google that too. The 401K crises is that people think they have a lot of money for retirement, which to them they do. That money then goes quickly once the income from their job stops flowing and they are forced back into the labor market, more often than not in low paying jobs. We are not pros at managing our 401K’s. I have personally taken a bath on my 401K more than a few times over the years as the stock market has tanked.
At least Boomer’s will have Social Security, which may not be the case for other generations. Retirement is in crisis in America and it’s on us to prepare. We need a strategy and cash flow from Real Estate is one of them. It could be as simple as owning a hand full of single-family homes, two families or a four family or two to help offset your retirement income or your social security. It’s really your choice based on your goals and abilities. The America of today is not the America of old where we could devote ourselves to our employer and retire with a pension. We are on our own and this is reality. Real Estate can help generate a steady stream of cash flow in your retirement.
Retirement is not defined by age. You can retire at any age if you can generate the cash flow to get it done. It doesn’t matter if you are twenty and want to retire at thirty, or fifty and want to retire at sixty-six. You can do it with Real Estate. Real Estate is real, it’s tangible, and you can see it, work on it, improve it, manage it and even love it. It involves creativity and can be quite fun. That’s what makes it a great investment and a rewarding venture. There are many options for success in Real Estate, which makes it a flexible investment as well. I can’t count the times I have heard someone say, “when I retire” followed by what they are planning to do in their retirement. Retirement is something we dream of and live for.
